FISH MARKET DOCK

On the northern side of the arsenal, at the site of today’s Main dock (Veliki Muo), there was a smaller pier called the Fish Market Dock (Muo Ribarnice), alongside which the fishing boats used to dock because of the fish market placed nearby. Occasionally, it was referred as the Flour pier (Muo brašna) as it was next to a granarium (granary), a storage facility for grain and flour.

The stone dock at this site was mentioned as early as the 15th century. It was shorter than the adjacent Ponta Dock (gat Ponta), with a length of approximately 24 metres and a width of about 4,70 metres. In 1869, the waterfront was constructed in front of the Great Arsenal (Veliki arsenal), connecting Ponta Dock (Ponta gat) with the Fish Market Dock (Gat Ribarnice).

In 1874 the Fish Market Dock (Gat Ribarnice), which by then was smaller than the Ponta Dock (Gat Ponte), was expanded to accommodate steamboats.

Through subsequent adaptations in 1930s, it was enlarged to its current dimensions, approximately 40 meters in length and 10 meters in width.
