Minčeta Tower

Minčeta Tower is the tallest edifice in Dubrovnik’s fortification system. This circular tower is topped with corbel-supported crenellations. Originally quadrangular in shape, this tower, built in the early 14th century, was upgraded by the Florentine architect Michelozzi in 1461 in order to adapt it for modern warfare with firearms and artillery units. Other famous architects worked on the Tower’s later upgrades: Juraj Dalmatinac (Giorgio da Sebenico), the renowned architect born in Šibenik, and Paskoje Miličević, who completed the work on the tower in the late 15th century.
