The Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Nature Park: the natural wonder of the Marche region

In the heart of the Marche hinterland, among lush hills and deep karst gorges, lies the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Nature Park, the largest protected area in the Marche region, a veritable treasure trove of biodiversity, history and natural wonders where nature manifests itself in its most spectacular and surprising form. The park is famous and known throughout the world above all for the natural spectacle it offers beneath its territory, in the municipality of Genga: the Frasassi Caves. This is one of the largest and most fascinating karst complexes in Europe, an authentic masterpiece composed of stalactites, stalagmites, crystal-clear lakes and imposing underground cathedrals, which leave every visitor breathless. The guided tour takes visitors along a safe route through evocative environments such as the Abisso Ancona chamber, with its majestic height of over 200 metres, and the surprising Sala delle Candeline, which enchants young and old alike. For adventure lovers, there are also caving itineraries that allow you to explore the depths of the caves with a suit and helmet, offering the unique and intense experience of a journey into the heart of the earth.

However, the beauty of the park is not limited to the underground world: the Rossa and Frasassi gorges, carved out over the centuries by the Sentino river, are canyons of rare beauty, which can be admired through a network of hiking trails suitable for all levels of fitness. Walking through these valleys means immersing yourself in wild and unspoilt nature, among woods of holm oaks, beeches and other oak trees, where it is not uncommon to encounter peregrine falcons or spot roe deer among the vegetation.

Among the most evocative destinations are the hermitage of Santa Maria Infra Saxa and the Valadier temple, set in a panoramic cave suspended between rock and sky, capable of offering profound emotions and surprising landscapes. The park is also a guardian of culture and traditions: the villages of Genga, Serra San Quirico and Fabriano (UNESCO Creative City), tell ancient stories through museums, churches, abbeys and artisan workshops, offering an authentic experience that combines nature and history. The local cuisine is a further invitation to discover this land, famous for its typical products such as cured meats, cheeses, truffles and the renowned Verdicchio, a white wine to be savoured in the welcoming trattorias of the area and loved everywhere to accompany the tasty fish specialities of the Adriatic.

The Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Park is truly a journey into the most surprising nature of the Marche region, where every step reveals ever-changing landscapes, every glimpse tells a story and every visit becomes an indelible memory that remains in the heart of anyone who visits this wonderful natural corner of the Marche region.
